Everything you need to know about how Vaults works, where the rate comes from and how your funds are protected.
Vaults is a lending product that relies on (embedded) self-custody wallets. When you activate it, you lend your USDC or MXNB to borrowers through the Morpho protocol and, in return, earn a variable yield.
This type of lending works differently from a bank account or a fixed-rate product: there is no regulated institution safeguarding your funds, you control your funds at all times, and your return depends on the protocol's rules, not on a fixed promise from Bitso.
Your funds are held in a smart contract, not in Bitso's custody. This means Bitso does not safeguard your money while it is in Vaults.
MXNB is a stablecoin pegged to the Mexican peso: each MXNB is backed 1:1 by Mexican pesos, so its value stays stable against the peso. You can buy it on Bitso and put it in Vaults to earn more.
Yes. You can buy it, or use the USDC or MXNB balance you already have in your Bitso account.
Once you accept the terms and conditions, a self-custody wallet is created for you, in your name, the first time you activate Vaults. Once this embedded wallet is created, all the USDC or MXNB you move to Vaults is transferred there. You don't need recovery phrases or any technical setup. From then on, Vaults starts earning yield for you through Morpho.
The Vaults rate isn't set by Bitso: it's set by borrowing demand within the Morpho protocol, so it can go up or down over time. The app always shows the current rate.
You can move your USDC or MXNB back at any time, straight to your Bitso balance, with no lock-up period. Because it's an embedded wallet, you control your funds.
In rare cases, if protocol liquidity is temporarily limited, the transfer may take longer; if so, the app will show you an estimated wait time.
On top of the yield your USDC or MXNB earns, Vaults may distribute MORPHO tokens as an extra reward. Claim these tokens directly from your Vault's detail page. They're sent straight to your Bitso account. Like the yield, MORPHO rewards are variable and not guaranteed.
Morpho is the lending protocol that powers Vaults. It's an open protocol that connects people who lend crypto with people who borrow it, using smart contracts to automate the rules of that relationship.
The Vault we use within Morpho is curated by Gauntlet, a company specializing in protocol risk management, which is responsible for setting the Vault's risk parameters. Bitso does not operate, own or control the Morpho protocol.
The Morpho Vault is the lending pool within the Morpho protocol that holds your USDC or MXNB.
The Morpho Vault we use is curated by Gauntlet, a company specializing in protocol risk management. Gauntlet decides how pooled funds are allocated and sets the Vault's risk limits. Bitso does not set or control these parameters.
You can check the Vault's full details, including liquidity, total deposits, the curator and collateral exposure, at any time on the Vault's page on Morpho.
View the Vault page on Morpho ↗It's a self-custody wallet that's created automatically for you the first time you activate Vaults. It lets you control your own funds and interact with the Morpho protocol. While your embedded wallet is linked to your Bitso account, you don't need to manage it, handle keys or store recovery phrases. It still shows in the app even after you move your entire balance back to Bitso (with a zero balance). You can also request to export your wallet to get its private key. Once you do, the wallet is permanently unlinked from Bitso and, from then on, you manage it yourself, outside the app.
